It seems that Facebook was hacked last year and the company only came to know about it recently when a security researcher was performing penetration testing and trying to identify gaps in security of Facebook network. As per the researcher, hackers gained entry into Facebook's internal corporate network in July and September last year and as recent as February this year and Facebook was oblivious to it. They had access to hundred's of Facebook's employee ids and passwords. Facebook has been alerted of the hack and it is a pretty serious security incident. The investigation is being carried out and as per Facebook, other parts of the infrastructure are safe.
